Sidley Austin, of Big Firm notoriety, just slaughtered 89 attorneys and 140 support staff. I just found out the entire second-year class of their Corporate Finance practice group in New York was laid off. People who are, by and large, still pretty fresh out of law school.
Including one of my groomsmen.
You know what? When the economy pulls its head out of its ass, law students are going to remember the names of firms that shit on their young attorneys -- legal behemoths like Sidley Austin and Goodwin Procter. Not that these places won't be able to refill their ranks, but I hope the best new talent steers clear of them for the simple fact that they'd sooner cut people than profits.
At least he got four months' severance, but damn. Total bullshit.
Maybe I shouldn't have taken today off...
