It's impossible to watch the Boston marathon and not walk away feeling, I don't know, inspired? Is that it? It's just -- whoosh -- such a rush of energy to be out there, watching 25,000+ people tackle 26 miles of concrete, and the thousands more who press along the sides of the course to cheer them on.
I'm a fair weather runner.
But I thought --
How amazing would it be to round up a team of Cornellians and race for the Hilltop? I mean, I have no chance of qualifying. But you can run as a fundraising team. And Cornell is one of those things I feel enough of us have in common that we could pull together for, especially if we were contributing to the right kind of fund (certainly not the capital fund, bleh). Not to mention it could be a great opportunity for sponsoring alumni to rally behind a bunch of fools in Purple & White who are out of their depth. (Okay, maybe it'd just be me out of my depth.)
I don't know. Kicking it around. We'll see how I feel about it after my next 5k.
(This is actually a picture from the 2005 marathon -- we forgot the camera today -- but you get the idea.)

i think i would watch the race, think, "that's spectularly amazing that other people volunteer to punish themselves," and then promise to be your cheerleader while YOU run.

Haha, yeah, I think the inspirational moment has passed for me. I mean, it's 26.2 miles. That's not race -- that's a lifestyle.
Oi.
